Welcome toThe 2023 Alpha Merit Golf Classic

@ The Clubs of Kingwood Country Club!

Founded in 1982, the Alpha Merit Group Educational Foundation, Inc. (AMGEF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, that provides scholarships and development curricula for minority youth throughout the Houston metropolitan area.  The organization was founded as a mechanism to address the challenges facing young minorities in America.  It has grown into a fully comprehensive outreach and scholarship entity over its decades of existence.  In addition to providing hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships, AMGEF has impacted thousands of students from elementary school age to higher education.  It’s signature program prepares high school juniors and seniors for college and life after school. The foundation has cultivated partnerships with entities such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Houston, Sam Houston Area Council of Boy Scouts, Junior Achievement of Southeast Texas, March of Dimes – Houston and HYPE Freedom School, Inc.

2023 AMGC HONORARY CHAIR
MR. LEONARD JAMES III
 

Mr. Leonard James’ life started from humble beginnings in rural northern Alabama.  He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in statistics from the University of Alabama and a Master of Business Administration degree from Louisiana State University.

He started his professional career in 1973 and worked 38 years for Exxon Mobil Corporation before retiring in 2012. His career grew from an early assignments in marketing and sales to leading multi-cultural marketing, initiatives to increase the number of minority retailers, and minority community outreach and advocacy at the world’s largest oil and gas corporation.
